DVD94527 Adriana Lecouvreur - ON Timisoara 27 MAY 2011
Here is the recording of a tv broadcast of a performance from last year in the
rather small Opera House in Timisoara - a city in Western Romania. It was the
opening night of a new production that had been done mainly with local singers
and prepared one year before, when it was presented in concert having then as
guests Nelly miricioiu and Marianne Cornetti. Now, when fully staged, they only
invited the tenor Călin Brătescu and soprano Sorina Silvia Munteanu [as the
Pricess of Bouillon], keeping the rest of the original cast with the addition,
in the title role, of Carmen Gurban. The production is mostly classical in the
minimalist manner and is essentially a provincial one in many ways. You won't
find fabulous great singers or players, but it is clean and nice and essentially
good and enjoyable; considering the many difficulties of the opera, it is IMHO
better than many more famous productions I have seen or heard during the years.
I recorded it from digital CATV onto an HDD-dvd-recorder and split it in 4
parts, one for each act; I later combined them 2 on a disc [the first has a
slight compression, 97.5%]. The quality is good, but not absolutely great,
because the original recording, although made professionally, is not extremely
high-grade.
