Product Description
CD82469 Offenbach's Robinson Crusoe
France Musique's regular summer operetta slot included in its Saturday 7 August
2010 outing a 1980 recording of Offenbach's 1867 opéra comique Robinson Crusoé.
A rare complete performance, it lasts two and a half hours which may go some way
to explain why it wasn't staged between its relatively successful 1867 run and a
Camden Festival performance in 1973.
The cast isn't listed on France Musique's website and I didn't trust myself to
spell the names correctly so I've included the announcer Jean-Christophe Keck's
run through as a tiny audio file.
Keck, by the way, is producing an edition of Offenbach's works for Boosey and
Hawkes (see http://www.offenbach-edition.com/). A word of warning about the
site, though. It's one of these ghastly Internet sites which starts playing
music the second you get to it. If you happen to be recording anything from the
web or otherwise, it'll botch it up for you.
The programme included three other highly enjoyable items in addition to the
operetta. None are commercially available.
Jacques Offenbach - Robinson Crusoé, par les solistes, les chœurs et le nouvel
orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France
cond. Jean-Pierre Marty.
