CD95993 Osud BBC Radio 1971
Hi everyone
This is rather poignant recording since a couple of months after this recording
in December 1971 Marie Collier died after falling from a second-floor window
aged just 44. She never heard the broadcast which occurred in January 1972.
Collier was a noted interpreter of Janacek, singing a number of his operas at
Sadler's Wells in the 1950s and 1960s. This was a new role for her, and indeed
it might have been the first time Osud was heard in Britain. The sound is ok
stereo, there was a persistent high pitched interference that I have tamed by
equalisation and the balance between left and right was all over the place - I
have tried to resolve that as best I can. All the commentary and the
intermission features are included. This is not from the Jan '72 broadcast but
from a re-broadcast in 1973. I can't find the exact date of that.
Leos Janácek - Osud (sung in English)
BBC Studio recording October 1971, first broadcast on BBC Radio 3 January 22,
1972.
